We arrived at dusk. The road was an alley of oaks just like in the movies only my girlfriend was ahead on her mountain bike awaiting us. I got out of the truck and hopped on the back of her bike. I left my husband and children and became a child myself. We rode together and she showed me the different birds and pointed out a huge alligator. When the car drove away the bike was the only reminder that we were in the present time. My mind reeled with the colors and views. I took photo after photo in my mind. The house was perfect. It was built in the 30's and is a sprawling one story ranch. Perfection. I was raised in a sprawling ranch house and still to this day it is my favorite. With view of flooded rice fields and an orchestra of wind and birds, I begin to began to understand the strong pull of the southern land.
