Spoleto is one of my favorite events in Charleston. Here's a little history. "For 17 days and nights each spring, Spoleto Festival USA fills Charleston, South Carolina's historic theaters, churches and outdoor spaces with over 120 performances by renowned artists as well as emerging performers in disciplines ranging from opera, theater, music theater, dance, and chamber, symphonic, choral, and jazz music, as well as the visual arts." Each year a different artist is chosen to create the official poster. This year's poster is by contemporary artist Alex Katz. Local businesses look forward to their role in this international festival. One refreshing Spoleto delight is Bacco Restaurant's version of sgroppino, "Venice's match for the margarita." Click here for the recipe. This is a must see event. Charlestonians couldn't possibly start their summer vacations until the orchestra plays their last note at Middleton gardens.
