ESD closes its door on King Street

It is with mixed emotions that I say, for now, goodbye to King Street. It has been a great run on King for 7 years.  But now I have decided to make a bold move and consolidate everything to my bigger store at 422 Savannah Highway. There are many reasons. The catalyst was when my request for rent concession for three months was denied. I am not a risk taker and that combined with the timing of the signature to renew the lease and the unknown of the economy, lead me to this decision. No, I didn't have to move and no, we are financially stable but I didn't want the risk in this economy and frankly the above thoughts make me want to puke. I have worked hard (as many of the retailers feeling the economic times have) and, well, maybe the timing was perfect. So I did it. I decided to kick my ego and to leave the well-known and well respected King Street.  An address is not a good reason to stay. The pressure of my perfectionism and the desire to have the cash available to buy far and often outweighed the address issue. I want to morph and grow now. So here I go...the King Street store will close its doors in September and the 422 Savannah Hwy store will be filled with new merchandise, great finds (I leave this week) and containers to begin hitting the end of August.  King Street is an expensive address (truth hurts) and I am now one of the many locals that has been squeezed out but... on this one, less is more. I will have one less store but I am so excited to be filling it with treasures from places I have never been and new jewelry I am tracking now. India or bust... have cash will travel!!!!! Expect the unexpected. Thank you King Street. I won't be gone forever. Muffie
