What a stressful day. At 10:30 this morning I got a call that a cat of mine had been hit by a car. They said they were sure it was an orange cat and they saw it get hit! I have 6 cats. Some people are bleeding heart liberals....I have a bleeding heart for hurt cats, pet helper cats and well...just cats in general. I was able to find pretty quickly all my cats including two of the three orange cats. That left only Tanny...my favorite cat as the one hit and now missing! Tanny is 14 and the oldest of the group. He lost his eye to a rose thorn when he was little and ever since that day, he has been the "under dog" of the group (in my mind ) and thus my favorite. He was picked on quite often when he was little even though I paid extra to give him a glass eye. Yep...that is what I said... A glass eye. He is a beautiful burnt orange color and has grown to be an impressive 11 pounds! I was crushed and i looked for Tanny all day. I really don't think I sat down until about 6pm when my hopes had given way to the reality that he very well may have gone off the die. The ability to love something deeply feels like a burden sometimes. I know it did today. I cried, I called, I prayed. It was just a cat I would say to myself but he was my friend too. I put up signs. Missing cat, hit by car, and my number. I only put up a few thinking the chances were slim 8 hours after he was hit and under someone's car. I got the call at 7pm. Someone just saw a dark orange cat run across the road. I ran to the street and there was nice lady standing in the middle of the road. She had seen my sign, seen my cat and here she stood looking as worried as I had been all day! Then she took of her sunglasses and looked at me in a perplexed way and said, "Muffie... Muffie Mitchell?" NO WAY...She knows me?! Turned out we went to High-school together in Columbia and hadn't seen each other in oh....100 years or so! What are the chances? As I went off to look for the cat they had just seen, I shook my head and thought how incredible it would be if she were to have been the one to have found my hurt cat! I turned around the corner, walked up the hill and who was sitting by the back door but TANNY CAT! I scooped him up and put him in the the carrier and headed off to the the emergency vet clinic and and my prayers were answered.....he was going to be fine!
