Be careful out there....

I wanted to write a blog on the Forth of July and as I sit back to contemplate what to write, the same sentence keeps coming up. "Be careful lighting fireworks....remember your brother Bill lit one and it blew up in his hand...he had to go to the hospital...." Dun na na nahhh..... It was impressionable...what can I say? The Forth of July was a much loved holiday for me. I grew up on a lake and on the forth of July, the tiny island/sand bar in the middle of the lake, became the spot where the large firework show was delivered. "Large" is relative term now but as a child sitting on a blanket in the back yard, at the edge of the lake, it was comparable to the New York fireworks show or maybe one in Washington DC! So you get the point. It was "BIG." We would barbecue  chicken ("the burned part is the BEST part"... said her mother" ummm mmmm...yea... And then we waited by the lake in the dark for the silhouette of a little boat to cross over to "firework island"  and start the show. Huge slices of  watermelon in our laps and BOOM! It always started with a HUGE cannon sound and ended with a HUGE cannon sound. I hated that part. Both parts. It always scared me silly and I got nothing but jumpy nerves to show for it. Maybe that was the point?  "Ohhhhh...... Ahhhhhhh.......I like that one! That looks like....ohhhh look at that one.....how do they do that?" It seem to go on for hours. And then.. BOOM it was over. Then we'd head back up to the house ready to start our own firework display. And then somewhere from the distance my mom would yell out... "Be careful lighting fireworks....reeememmbbbber... your brother Bill lit one and it blew up in his hand" "he had to go to the hospital...." Dun na na nahhh..... And arm out stretched, I would light my sparkler and make zigzags in the night. Happy Forth of July!!!!  But Be Careful...Bill lit a firework and it blew up in his hand....
