The Cheater's Guide to Kudzu Bakery

Sometimes when you run across something wonderful you just have to share. Maybe that comes from "Show and Tell" in kindergarten. If you're not familiar with the Kudzu Bakery, which originated in Georgetown, SC, you need to know that it opened a store on Coleman Blvd. Life's been moving fast for me these last few years and I've finally slowed down. Slow enough to actually pull into the Kudzu Bakery at closing time yesterday. First reaction? Man! It smells good in here! Second reaction? This is the non-cook's cheating paradise. In giant freezer cases are vacuumed sealed main entrees (no pressure to cook it tonight), fabulous appetizers ("I just thought I'd bring this by"), homemade pastas, yummy sauces...and it's all stackable and labeled for your freezer. I think I'm in heaven! I turned and laughed at the woman behind the counter saying, "Don't tell anybody, but I'm getting ready to cheat on my next 6 dinners and man, does this feel good!" So last night, I set the table with lemon yellow placemats, a centerpiece of red roses and multicolored zinnias and red hand-blown water glasses. Topped it off with flounder and shrimp that I grilled (and didn't burn), "homemade mac & cheese" and a fabulous summer salad. My son went back for seconds, which brought tears to my eyes. And as everyone got up from the table I exclaimed, "Wait! Doesn't anybody want a slice of keylime pie?" Get to the Kudzu Bakery for a wonderful evening and a slice of keylime pie, or blackberry, because that's what I'm getting next! Kudzu Bakery's Blackberry Pie
