This morning was beautiful! You wake to the birds singing around 6 a.m., and it is like a lullaby. I got up and went to the roof terrace of my riad which is a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an interior garden or courtyard. This sure feels like my own little palace. The shadows and the light are beautiful and it is cool in the morning. I enjoyed relaxing and watching the birds and thinking.
I missed breakfast and was shot into the day with only a pack of crackers. Not smart.
We moved quickly from place to place and the temperature increased by the second.
Most places turn on the light for you when you walk in and many don't have a fan...much less AC. BY 1:00 I was melting and feeling faint. The place we were shopping was large and I admitted, "I might not be feeling so well..." so I was taken to the office WHERE THEY HAD AC! Water and a little food and I was BACK!
Furniture, lighting, bags, the list goes on...and on...and on... and at every step of the way I met someone else with a great story.
The last of the day we went to the Medina quarter which is a distinct city section found in many of the North African cities. And yes ...it felt like Indiana Jones could turn the corner at any minute running from a gigantic boulder rolling after him. I would have needed a compass to get out of the Medina so thank God I had a local to guide me!
Last on the list? RUGS!
They have so many rug dealers and rugs here, you could get buried in them. I'm good with rugs...and before I knew it, 2 hours had passed and I was standing on a pile of rugs and looked like I was commanding an army.
Today I go back to pare down... either that or be on the lookout for the ESD Rug & Spice Store 😬!
I can NOT wait to show you what I have hand picked throughout Europe and now Africa.
